Teaching Comics: Volume 1 by Alex Nall will be published by Chicago Literati Books in May 2016.

Chicago cartoonist Alex Nall and online literary magazine Chicago Literati are collaborating to release Nall’s debut graphic novel, Teaching Comics: Volume One showcasing his experiences as a teaching artist in Chicago.

The novel collects stories both from published columns on Chicago Literati, the pages of Nall’s sketchbook, and comics created by Nall’s students. Since 2013, Nall has been working as a teaching artist in after school programs around the city. His work brings humor and honesty to the effort teachers give everyday.

Those who contribute to the Indiegogo online campaign will receive rewards that include a copy of the published novel (signed by Nall), comics from elementary school students in Nall’s after school classes, original artwork by Nall, or a workshop for your class led by Nall. “By contributing to this campaign, you will be empowering students to keep creating art,” says Nall.

The campaign runs for a month, going live Monday, February 8 at noon (CST) and ending Wednesday, March 9. The campaign goal of $3000 is needed to cover printing of the work, shipping, and promotion costs.
